So I always see online meetups and stuff for D&D and Warhammer and such. Most of the people I know play Whitewolf, So why is it so hard to find a whitewolf group? Are we realy few and far between? I guess there are a few that play Vampire, but what about the others? I tend to play alot of Werewolf, and some Mage. Strange to think that so many players are here and not found elswhere.

Re: Is it just me?
Sat, August 5, 2006 - 6:22 PMPersonally I thought White Wolf sucked everything fun out of my favorite legends and made this cumbersome and boring thing. For the people who like it, more power to them.
In my area, it seems like most WW gamers are already absorbed into various large groups, usually LARP oriented, but long established groups. New players usually wander in knowing someone else in the group. So they don't really have to look online. But my area could be unusual, so don't take that thought as gospel. -

Unfortunately, this DOES have a tendencay to happen in many WW games. They get entirely TOO detailed and the system bogs down in it's own numbers. A good ST can work around that by focusing on the story and not so much on the numbers and the die rolling... hence half ofthe equation that makes LARP popular (the other half being the social interaction)

Your area is NOT unusual in that respect. Role-playing in general, and D&D or White-Wolf in particular, are still "geek" hobbies. A large majority of people either don't understand the game, or fear it for various reasons (religious, social, or otherwise). In most areas poeple meet gamers or game groups through mutual friends who are already members, or they have mutual friends and decide to start a group. Gaming has been that way since the begining and unless it moves into the mainstream, is likely to remain that way. The other thing you can do is post an ad looking for players in your local game and hobby shop (most have a free or low cost bulletin board for just this purpose). Good luck!

Oddly that's how I feel about D&D.... the system always catered to those who wanted to weigh down the game with superficial details.
Of course, the key is always a good ST. Bad storyteller=bad game. But even in D&D with a good GM, the game would slooow toooo aaaaa craaaaaaaaaaaawl while everyone looked up every goddam irrelevent detail under the mythical sun. Absolutely no room for creativity--pointless in my eyes.
The only WW games I've found around DFW are LARP, also. I did the VLARP (and crossovers) for many years. I'd like to just find a nice, mellow, mature, core-books-only group--buncha folks who just wanna explore character development and build a story together.
*sigh* I had a near-ideal gaming group, once upon a time, in Seattle.... miss those guys.

Re: Is it just me?
Sun, August 6, 2006 - 12:24 PMI've never even heard od LARP 'ing WW, not for me. We have an amazing story teller. The attraction I see to WW is that we can bring in so many new poeple. 2 of our peoplein our group are new to roleplaying period. For a time that number was up to5. I believe it's an easy game to bring someone in. Especialy due to the fact the story takes off well, and it's not too dice dependent, and when you do have to roll it is quick and un-complicated.
Of course this may be that way due to our fantastic GM.

Re: Is it just me?
Sat, September 9, 2006 - 8:41 PMHeck I would be happy just to find people in my area to game with. I was spoiled when I lived in the Detroit area. I had a group of about 8 people who got together once a week to game. We played EVERYTHING. Whitewolf included. Ran a Role Master campaign that lasted almost 6 months before we switched to Champions, then Car Wars, then... on and on. So... any adults out in the Kalamazoo Michigan area looking for a gamer or GM?
