Who's going this year?

Any advice for us newbies - best kept secrets, survival tips, not to miss events?

Thanks,
Jack!

1.) Get a decent hotel relatively close to the CC and walk there, traffic will suck so don't plan on driving around it much.
2.) The early games are often less intense due to the hour, I like to schedule myself for the lectures and discussion panels for this time.
3.) Evening games are often vibrant and heavily booked so register for your slots months in advance if you can.
4.) Many new items or books make their debut at Gen-Con and often ahead of announcement so bring enough money in case something catches your eye and you can't walk away without it.
5.) Eat lunch and dinner at off-hours if you can, or you'll spend more time than you want standing in line.
6.) Get to know the people playing and running games, get email addresses and IM info, this year's co-players are next years friends to watch for.
7.) Todd Rooks runs seriously great games in the free-style listing so watch for his stuff and join in.

    Hope this helps ya.

My fiance and I are going this year. I would suggest that you don't book up all your time in games because you can end up playing in some awesome unsheduled demos, especially if you're into the Forge and other indie stuff. Plus, you always want to save time (and money. oh god, money...) for the dealer's room.

I hope you have fun! I've been twice and it's always a blast. Also, try to get into the TrueDungeon game, it's quite the experience.

      Hey Nathan,

Todd Rooks here. Just wanted to say thanks for the kind words. I plan judge for Goodman Games "Dungeon Crawl Classic" tournament this year. In addition, I'll be running a low level adventure called "The Ruins of Castle Churo", which is not part of the tournament. Do you remember my custom DM screens? Well, Goodman Games published my tables in their new screen. Check it out at www.goodman-games.com/5038preview.php. Hope to see you this year!
